I have designed a component situate in the center of the lobby.Depending of different mode, 4 parts of stairs in the main compoent can be separated to form different sub components for different uses. I have also designed a pattern for the elevation of the stairs. This pattern is repeated and distributed to the whole component, from the floor to wall and from wall to the ceiling. These patterns not only form windows, benches and tables; it also creates concealed lighting and form hall for people to access to different spaces.
Moreover, 4 parts of stairs are separating to different small component to fulfill different functions in different mode. Such as loose stair1, they can be separated and form a reception and benches in business mode. The other part is same as loose stair 2; they can be separated and form stages for speaker and choir and benches in church mode. It can also separate to benches and high table for bar mode also. And the loose stair 3 and loose stair 4, they can be separated to form a counter, tables at different height in bar mode. Depending on different mode, all the stairs can be transformed to fulfill different functions and produce a multifunctional space in Center point.

I have designed a multifunction space/ cross programming for “intensive mode for dwelling” in the center point in London. From my pedestrian flow, traffic flow, church and bar pattern diagram, I have studied the activities being carried out in the Center point’s lobby. From 10am to 7pm in business hours of weekday, the lobby is used for welcoming. The other spaces are used for meeting, chatting, sitting and waiting. After business hours, all spaces in the lobby are converted to circulation. In the weekend, some people may still need to work for a few hours and access to the building through the lobby. But after that, the function of the lobby is also changed to circulation only. Surrounding the center point, there are a lot of bars and churches. Most of the bars are opened for people for a meal or drink at night time. And the churches are for people to worship at the weekend. So, I proposed the Center point’s lobby to combine these functions together; business, bar and church. Depending on the time, a space can be transformed to different mode, and as a result, a cross programming is introduced to this space. The advantage is that the spaces can be fully used at all the time per week and produce a lot of activities for people in the Center point.
First, I have written down the main programs in 3 different modes, for example, in business mode, the main programs of the lobby are for welcoming and circulating. In bar mode, the main programs are serving, ordering and cooking for customers. And in church mode, the main program is preaching. They have a same character which produces different sub spaces for people to develop their activities and communicate. Secondary, base on the new tube station building form, I have designed a component and the main entrance in the center point. The advantage is that it can connect a relationship between center point and the tube station, and from the tube station to communicate with other places. Finally, I use these elements to start to design in the center point. In the Center point, base on the connecting of tube station, I have designed a component to form multifunctional space from different time.
